NBA Draft Trade Rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers offered #1 pick, Tristan Thompson, and Dion Waiters for Kevin Love

USA TODAY Sports

The Cavaliers are still trying to get an all star to pair with Kyrie Irving. They tried to get LaMarcus Aldridge and apparently, they tried to get Kevin Love. It would appear that they aren't having much luck.

The Cleveland Cavaliers' pursuit for an all star big man continues. The Cavs have been actively shopping the first overall pick in Thursday's NBA Draft for a while now, but they haven't been very successful. On Monday, Chad Ford reported that the Cavaliers offered the #1 and #19 picks for Portland Trail Blazers big man LaMarcus Aldridge. However, that offer was quickly declined. Tuesday, ESPN's Andy Katz reports that the Cavs also made an effort to trade for Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Love.

But the Cavs are also exploring trading the top pick since they’re not in love with any one player who in a "normal" year wouldn’t be a top pick. According to a source, Cleveland offered the No. 1 pick, Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters to try and land Minnesota’s Kevin Love. But new Timberwolves president Flip Saunders won’t move Love.

The Cavs are fond of Thompson and Waiters -- the latter being one of the top six rookies last season -- but Cleveland would love to get an All-Star forward to pair with All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving.

It's not surprising that the Timberwolves would reject this offer. It's been known for a while now that Kevin Love is not going anywhere. Any chance of him being moved died when David Kahn was fired and Flip Saunders took his place.

While I'm not surprised that Minnesota declined, I am somewhat surprised that the Cavs would offer all of that. We know that Cleveland has been very high on Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters, so I didn't really think they would offer both of them to get Love.

Chris Grant's quest for an all star big man continues.
