Dear FTS community,
I just wanted to write you all a little note about the draft last night. This is for the writers who provided amazing coverage. This is for the regulars who provided endless humor, rantings and witty banter. This is for the casual reader who is just trying to understand what's happening in the world. This is for everyone but Kendaru.
Most of you know that I have been the Captain (and some would say, only member) of #TeamBennett for a long time now, but I actually missed the draft completely. I'm actually leaving the country at 5:00 AM tomorrow morning, so I spent last night driving from Ohio to Louisville to spend some time with my girlfriend before I peaced out for a week. Because of this, I was not able to make even one pro-Bennett comment in yesterday's flurry of sadness.
I'm not here to gloat, because I know many of you are very upset, and if there is one thing that I totally understand, it's sad Cleveland fans. I just wanted to write a quick note about why you all should not be sad about the draft.
I will not be responding to one comment today. I will be spending the day with my girlfriend and then leaving the country, so please be respectful in the comments. Remember that I did not personally make this selection (although, we all know that Chris Grant reads FTS, so I might have swayed him), so don't take your anger out on me. I just want to provide three reasons to suspend your frustration.
1. I wanted Noel too, but a lot of GMs didn't.
I seriously love Bennett, but I wanted Noel more. So much so, that I was certain that if we didn't pick him, the league would go nuts trying to grab him at no. 2. The fact that he slid tells me that it might not have been the worst thing to let him slide. I seriously have no idea why, but there might be a reason.
2. Alex Len
The reason I wanted Noel so much was the fact that he had elite talent, and he played a position of need. Some would try to say that Len fits that description as well. Now, Len probable would have been an upgrade over Tyler Zeller, but he is not elite (except for in gymnastics, I've heard). I would much rather have a guy who can make a serious impact in this league over a stopgap that we very well may have decided to replace soon anyway.
3. Sergey Karasev
We got just a fantastic pick at 19, guys. If you're upset about Bennett's fit, be excited about Karasev's. The fact that he's a SF who can shoot from deep should calm everyone down that we didn't get a center.
Listen guys, I wrote this in ten minutes. I'm not even going to re-read it before I post it. I know there are a ton of questions with Bennett, and I can't answer them all right now. Just know that as a fellow die-hard fan, I want you all to be comforted.
