Let me start off by saying that I was not on the Karasev bandwagon. I thought it would have been a waste to trade up to 13 to get him. But we sat at 19 and got him. Almost every scenario I have seen of Cavs becoming a playoff team has Karasev as our starting SF. He is almost heralded as the second coming of Andrei Kirilenko
, but what are our realistic expectations.
Alright, don't get me wrong, I love the prospect of this 19 year old who has one of the strongest shooting strokes in this draft. And even though he has great size at 6'7'', he has an average wingspan and weighs under 200lbs. Majority of his points come from catch and shoot situations but lacks great foot speed and strength, particularly as a finisher around the rim, Karasev is not a prolific threat off the bounce one-on-one.
I love the idea of Karasev as an injection of offense as a Swingman at 2 or 3, but I seriously have my doubts for him as a starting player in this league. So I am left to ask, how do we fix our SF situation?
I LOVE Alonzo Gee
. I think he is such a team player, and he has done so much for us. But lets face facts, we cannot go through another season of him as our starting 3. I am probably one of the few people who think Bennett was the best move for us, but he isn't a starting 3 in the league (atleast in his rookie season). I will operate under Dan Gilberts statements that we will not be in the lottery for a long time. I hate to say it, but outside of Cleveland, no one sees us as being able to jump all the way up to make the playoff. So wouldn't our first round pick next year hold some serious value given the draft class next year? The 76ers
, practically gave up Jrue Holiday
a 23 year old all-star, for another first round pick next year. We have first rounders from Memphis, Miami and Sacremento owed over the next 2 drafts. Im sure we can turn these selections into a quality SF. My wishlist looks like this 1.Nicholas Batum 2.Evan Turner
But what about Free Agency? I love the idea of Andre Iguodala
on this team, I don't think many other people love it so much, but if we want to be a playoff team, Iguodala pretty much instantly does that. I am also huge on Martell Webster. He is now stuck behind Porter and Ariza, so I doubt he will be returning to Washington. He is athletic, well sized, and seems healthy now, with a great 3pt shot. Only problem I have with Webster is he doesn't necessarily make us a playoff team
