The draft is over and we all have questions. Are we really running Gee/Miles out there as our starting SF combo? Can Bennett earn playing time there? Do we have a big that can protect the rim? Is our bench going to start out as awefully as next year? Are we saving our cap space for next year, or to be in a part of a big time trade this season? There are a lot of ways the Cavs can go, this post is about plugging the holes we have in the short term while we sort out how our core works (or doesn't work) together.
1. Chris Anderson- Averaged 2.5 blocks and 10 reb/36 last season with the Heat and they can only offer him a 20% raise on the minimum contract because they are over the cap. On the other hand he is 35 in a few days and has played ~1800 mins total over the past 3 seasons, so the role of energy rebounder/defender off the bench is all he is. 1 year ~3 million with a team option and a 1mill buyout for 2014/15 would be fair for both sides and a nice payday for his last contract.
2. Corey Magette- The Dunleavy/Barnes types, ie decent SFs in their early 30s, are probably looking for multiple year as this could be their last chance at a multi year contract. Magette has fallen off the cliff and cant command anything- an invitation to camp on a non gauranteed, vets min contract and see if he shows healthy, in shape and working hard. If not he is the first to go. Two years ago he was still a 21/6/2 guy (per 36) and anything close to that would be better than Gee and possibly Miles.
