Fear The Podcast 2: The Sergey Karasev Edition

During our 2nd Fear the Podcast, JRowan (Justin) led a group of 4 other guys: NonDairyKreemer (George), WitMi (Mike), BenMiller (Ben) and myself (also Ben.) What you are a reading is essentially a collective thought process from the group. This was written to give you a rough overview of what transpired at a particular segment (for those of you who aren't as into the podcast thing...or who are interested in specific segments.) You may notice a theme were certain ideas are rehashed based on stuff that's already been said here. That should come as no surprise because...we've already done some of this.

We actually went into a Sergey Karasev segment. This write up will be brief because he has been discussed quite a bit here.

Ulitmately, he's got a sweet stroke with deep range. He's very mature and experience for his age. While he's not a guy who has a stellar handle (he's not the next Kyrie) he's got some pretty promising passing skills. Basically, like a better shooting, lesser driving Manu Ginboli. Because...dreadful comparisons. LOL

At this point in the podcast, there was a lot more ad-libbing. A few more tangents. It was partly my fault. I brought up how he'd be a better version of Daniel Gibson. Someone mentioned something else. (Wife interrupted here too.) This led to a discussion of how all 4 of our recent editions (Bynum hadn't actually signed at the time of the post) can shoot. Jarrett Jack, Earl Clark, Anthony Bennett and Sergey Karasev are all guys that you (at a minimum) need to account for when they are on the floor.

Probably the biggest concern to come out of this particular segment was our lack of a legit starting SF. Let's face it, Earl Clark is ideally a backup. Alonzo Gee is best served as a defensive specialist who plays limited minutes. In all likelihood, neither Bennett nor Karasev are ready to start at SF just from a defensive stand point. However, this isn't necessarily aimed towards a certain individual next year. This was more due to Chris Grant not having a proper candidate to bring onto this team (other than Otto Porter) that could be had for the right price. Chris Grant doesn't overpay for anything. He makes you overpay him. (Yeah...it's a terrible version of all the Russian jokes we've almost beaten to death here. Also...I said that in the Randall voice.) I mean...worst case scenario...we're not playing Casspi anymore. So we should automatically see improvement just based on that, right? Especially since he was replaced with NBA level talent (in Clark) and not just some D-league scrub wannabe (like Gee used to be.)
