Hi everybody! I'm Dr. Nick!!
Wait, no I'm not. I'm a regular contributor over at Blazersedge. And, in a round-about way, a Cavs fan!
Brief backstory- I worked with a guy who was from Cleveland. Huge Cavs guy. We had a great work rivalry whenever the teams played each other (and LeBron often destroyed us at the Rose Garden) and then I dated a girl for two years from Cleveland who is also a mega-super-huge Cavs fan. We went through The Decision and post-Decision together. It was painful. Since then they have become my Eastern Conference team I follow and tend to root for when they aren't playing the Blazers. I am probably Kyrie's biggest fan west of Cinci and I was a JJ Hickson fan from day one. So bummed we couldn't hold onto him- he gave us 110% last year, love that guy.
Anyway, the Blazers are in a slightly similar situation in that we drafted a dynamic point guard who went on to become Rookie of the Year and looks poised for stardom. Scoring from anywhere on the court, crazy amounts of confidence/poise and a great attitude towards the game. We're excited over here like I'm sure y'all are for having Kyrie.
Last week at the USAB scrimmage Kyrie was undoubtedly the best player on the court. Damian Lillard started on the other team and they had some cool head-to-head moments. Kyrie is obviously a year better than Damian and maybe has the higher ceiling but I still feel like in a few years these guys will be equals. Kyrie has a bit of injury history and Damian led the league in minutes last year so maybe durability favors Dame, but I would love to see an eventual NBA Finals with both of them going back and forth.
My question for you is how do you view Damian Lillard? Is he on Kyrie's level? Do you see a budding rivalry? Would you trade them straight across? I know a lot of fans over at Blazersedge got a lot of love for Kyrie. Wondering if it's the same over here for our young PG. Cheers!
