NBA Trade Rumors: Cavaliers and Clippers discussing Tyler Zeller for Reggie Bullock deal

Are the Cavs looking to trade Tyler Zeller? If so, why?

Add Tyler Zeller to the list of players that the Cleveland Cavaliers are apparently making available at the NBA trade deadline. According to Brian Windhorst from ESPN.com and Jason Lloyd from the Akron Beacon Journal, the Cavs have been making calls trying to see what they can get in exchange for the 7-foot Zeller.

One of the teams that the Cavs have reportedly talked to is the Los Angeles Clippers.

It's not a secret that the Clippers are looking to add another viable big so that they can stop giving so many minutes to Ryan Hollins. Zeller would certainly be that guy. He's putting up very solid numbers per 36 minutes this season and has started playing with a sense of urgency and aggressiveness that you definitely like to see. That said, why would the Cavs want to get rid of him? Sure, they just traded for Spencer Hawes. But Zeller is the only center on the roster that has a fully guaranteed contract after this season. He's a young, skilled 7-footer. Those don't grow on trees.

UPDATE:

I'm a big fan of Reggie Bullock, but this trade doesn't make sense to me. I'd much rather have Zeller. It's worth noting that Windhorst's tweet only says the discussions are "involving" those players. Obviously, the discussions wouldn't have to be focused solely on a straight up swap of those two players.

Jason Lloyd has also reported that the Cavs are shopping Zeller.

Additionally, a league source told the Beacon Journal the Cavs have been shopping second-year center Tyler Zeller the last few days. Hawes' arrival could signal Zeller's exit.

Again, with a banged up Varejao and neither he nor Hawes guaranteed for next year, I have no idea why you want to get rid of Zeller at this point.

Stay tuned.
