Why would we not target Trevor Ariza in the offseason? He's tearing it up from three and has been decent there for a while. He also is an excellent defender, and a good rebounder and passer for his position. He plays well off of a ball dominant PG and can guard the opposition's 1 through 3.
When we miss out on Lebron, he's my number one target at our number one hole. 3 and D extraordinaire. I know his 3's have only been scintillating the last 2 years, but he's hitting 35% on his career and recently has settled into a role on the wizards that we could replicate here, being mostly a spot up 3 point shooter next to two ball dominant gaurds, while offering a little more versatility and good defense.
He's coming off 7 million per season, and I'm not sure what his price range will be. I would absolutely rather pay him than Deng though. He's 28, still has 3-4 near prime years left, and has shown more consistency with the 3pt shot. Washington won't want to give him up, and they only have 45 million committed to 6 players next year, but they'll need to resign gortat and fill out their roster as well. We may have a chance at outbidding them, but I'm not sure how high I would go. I think if he can be had for $11 million per for 3-4 years, it would be better than spending that on Deng and might be enough to pry him away without being egregious.
He's long and tall for his position, something Griffin has stressed as important, and plays his role well. I'm giddy thinking about it. Win the Lottery, draft Embiid, sign Ariza, get SHIPS!
