Free agency begins on July 1st, and with that comes speculation, but while everyone is wondering where LeBron and Melo will go, I wonder where guys like Greg Monroe will go. Monroe, one of the best young big men in the league, is a restricted FA, which, given his troubles playing along side Andre Drummond and Josh Smith, makes him a sign and trade candidate and with new head coach Stan Van Gundy's infatuation with stretch 4's, Monroe could very well be traded, or simply let go by the Pistons. I've decided to drum up some possible trade scenarios that could land the skilled big man in Cleveland.
Trade scenario #1: Pistons get: PF Anthony Bennett, 2015 1st Rd pick, PG Jarrett Jack. Cavs get: C/PF Greg Monroe.
Why I would make this trade: I really don't know how Van Gundy would feel about this trade, he loves his stretch 4's, but Bennett just put up one of the worst rookie seasons by a #1 pick in NBA history and Van Gundy wouldn't really be able to justify trading one of the leagues most promising young players for an overweight tweener. Maybe the 1st Rd pick and Jarrett Jack would be enough to land Monroe in a sign-and-trade.
Trade scenario #2: Three-way trade. Pistons get: PF Derrick Williams, Kings 2015 1st Rd pick, C/PF Anderson Varejao. Cavs get: C/PF Greg Monroe, SG Ben McLemore. Kings get: SG Dion Waiters, Cavaliers 2015 1st Rd pick.
Why I would make this trade: Everyone gets good value. Pistons get Varejao (who can fit well at the 4 spot) and a 1st Rd pick to help aid their rebuild. The Kings get another young building piece in Dion Waiters and a 1st Rd pick to add some more young talent. The Cavs get a true SG to play along side Kyrie and Andrew as well as a legitimate starting C.
These were the only trade scenarios that came to mind. Please think of your own scenarios and post them in the comments.
