Where is the love?

The past four years have been a hangover that never seemed to go away for northeast Ohio, until now. With the max extension with Kyrie Irving, getting the number one overall pick in the draft (Andrew Wiggins), and with the signing of LeBron James, Cleveland, Ohio is electrified once again. With the current roster that the Cavs have, it is not likely that Cleveland could compete with the western conference right now, but do they need much more firepower to compete with the east?

There has been plenty of speculation about trading for Kevin Love to pair with all stars Kyrie Irving and LeBron James. While this "big 3" would be very tough, it may be difficult to field a good team around them. The asking price for Kevin Love is too high for my liking. Minnesota has recently made it very clear that if they don't get Wiggins, Cleveland does not get Love, which is understandable. On the other hand, the Cavs have stated publicly that Wiggins will not be traded. My personal opinion is if I am the Cavs, I would wait as long as I can and see how close to the trade deadline I can get. The closer to the deadline, the more leverage Cleveland has because it is widely known that Love will not resign with the wolves. It would be smart for Cleveland to see if these young players can prove themselves first. Throughout the summer league, the bond between the two Canadian number 1 overall draft picks is quite obvious. Add in Tristan Thompson, and the Cavs have the three highest drafted Canadians ever. Sure these players are unproven right now, but trading one of these pieces could damage the chemistry. With the current roster, Cleveland can very much compete with any team in the east. In the event that the Cavaliers do escape the eastern conference and advance to the finals, anything can happen. Kevin Love has a tremendous talent, but giving these young players a chance to prove themselves before throwing them away would be the smartest decision for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
