After being waived to make room to sign Dahntay Jones, the Dallas Mavericks have claimed former Cavalier DeAndre Liggins off waivers. This is good news for the Cavaliers, as they’ll save about $2.5 million in tax payments and salary.
Dallas has claimed Cavs free agent DeAndre Liggins off waivers, league sources tell @TheVertical. Liggins' deal non-guaranteed for '17-18.

The Mavericks were the only team that was able to claim Liggins off waivers due to their open roster spot, and perhaps the defensive specialist can find a spot on a Mavericks team that’s in the middle of a quasi-rebuild.
The move to waive Liggins in the first place is still a surprising move to me. Dahntay Jones hasn’t played professional basketball all season to my knowledge, and Liggins proved himself useful while picking up Steph Curry full-court on Christmas.
That said, what’s done is done, and Liggins has found a new home for at least the rest of the (very little that’s left of) the regular season.
