2011-12 Game Previews
Game #31 Preview: Hornets at Cavaliers
The Cavaliers stole one from the Pistons last night but don't have anytime to dwell on it as they turnaround and play the Hornets tonight. The Hornets are not good, now that they Chris Paul is gone, but it still won't be an easy game.
Song Of The Day: ATLiens - Outkast
Tonight's Overview:
New Orleans Hornets (7-25) at Cleveland Cavaliers (13-17)
Can you believe that this is the last game before the all-star break already? Damn. The first half of the season went really, really fast. Let's see if the Cavaliers can end it on a high note.
Everybody knows about the Chris Paul drama that happened in the very short span of time between the lockout and the beginning of the season. Paul was leaving New Orleans anyway, so they dealt him to the Clippers and got Eric Gordon as the main piece in that deal. Unfortunately, Gordon has been hurt for nearly the entire season and has led to the Hornets being among the worst teams in the NBA.
Game #30 Preview: Pistons at Cavaliers
Game number thirty already? Sheesh. The Cavaliers welcome the Detroit Pistons to Quicken Loans Arena on a continuation of this epic February home-stand. I haven't been able to watch a Cavs game at the actual time for a while now, so I'm excited to sit down with y'all (virtually) and watch the Cavs. Oh yeah and one more thing....
Song Of The Day: I Want You Back - Jackson 5
Tonight's Overview:
Detroit Pistons (11-22) at Cleveland Cavaliers (12-17)
"Oh Manny, give me one more chance" - Dan Gilbert, apparently. If you haven't heard by now, the Cavaliers have signed guard Manny Harris to a 10-day contract from the Canton Charge. He is with the team and will dress for tonight's game. Daniel Gibson is probable and ought to be the starting shooting guard tonight against Detroit. Anthony Parker is still questionable with a sore back and I wouldn't be surprised if he is out tonight. If AP is out, that means Manny could actually get some burn tonight. That'd be cool.
Game #29 Preview: Kings at Cavaliers
It's the homecoming of J.J. Hickson. It's Omri Casspi playing against his former team. It's me running out of interesting things about this game.
Song Of The Day: All Of The Lights - Kanye West
Tonight's Overview:
Sacramento Kings (10-20) at Cleveland Cavaliers (11-17)
After that gutless performance on Friday night against the Miami Heat, I'm not sure the Cavs can come out with something worse. Last game was pretty much as bad as it gets.
Man, for as much hype as last game had, this one probably has the direct inverse of that. Cavs-Kings....woo, get pumped! As I said in the intro, the biggest storyline is that J.J. Hickson and Casspi were traded for one another in the offseason and now we get to see which team is more disappointed by the trade. Casspi has been pretty bad thus far in wine and gold and Hickson has been downright terrible for Sacramento.
Game #28 Preview: Heat at Cavaliers
Before I get into my preview I feel it is necessary to wish a happy 49th birthday to one Michael Jordan. As basketball fans, this is worth acknowledging. Happy birthday, MJ!
Anyway, here we go. Cavaliers-Heat, once again. This time, however, the Cavaliers aren't taking their talents southward -- the South Beachers are coming up to the shores of Lake Erie. And you know what that means: LBJ is back.
You can still get tickets to this game, I promise. http://tiqiq.us/7.W
Song Of The Day: You're Gonna Go Far, Kid - The Offspring
Tonight's Overview:
Miami Heat (23-7) at Cleveland Cavaliers (11-16)
Just another game, right? Eh, probably not. The Q should be rockin' as No. 6 makes his return to Cleveland. The venom should be in full effect despite the comments that James made yesterday. I want the Cavs to come out with high energy for every game, but this is really the one game in which you cannot fall flat. I trust Byron Scott to have his guys ready and I fully expect the Cavs to give Miami as much as they can handle.
Game #27 Preview: Pacers at Cavaliers
The Cavaliers got a nice break and return to action after not playing since Saturday. The extra time off means that players probably got a chance for rest up and have fresher legs, something that is not to be underestimated in this frantic season. Furthermore, it was enough time to let Kyrie Irving recover from his concussion. I'd say I'm 90% confident that Kyrie will return to the court tonight when the Indiana Pacers come to town.
Song Of The Day: What Planet Is This? - The Seatbelts
This song rocks. The video is weird. Enjoy it. (I wonder if you guys actually listen to these songs that I choose...hmmm.)
Tonight's Overview:
Indiana Pacers (17-11) at Cleveland Cavaliers (10-16)
The Indiana Pacers just got rocked by the Miami Heat. Last night, Indiana lost to the Heat by a score of 105-90, but it took a 32-15 fourth quarter of garbage time for them to even get that close. It was a total beatdown. Now, that can go one of two ways for the Cavaliers. It could mean that they are just mentally and physically exhausted after that game and will come out flat against the Cavs tonight. Or it could mean that they want revenge and come out firing in order to redeem some dignity. It will be a testament to the coaching of Frank Vogel to see how the Pacers respond on the second night of a back-to-back.
Game #26 Preview: 76ers at Cavaliers
This could be ugly. Kyrie Irving is out again with a concussion. We thought that Anderson Varejao simply sprained his wrist in last night's game, but an MRI revealed that he had actually fractured it. Needless to say, Andy is out tonight and will be out for at least a couple weeks to come.
Song Of The Day: Funny Little Feeling - Rock N' Roll Soldiers
Tonight's Overview:
Philadelphia 76ers (18-9) vs. Cleveland Cavaliers (10-15)
The Cavaliers are going to be without their two best players tonight and will be playing their fourth game in five nights. Just that alone would generally set the team up for a bad night but when you add the fact that they are playing one of the best young teams in the NBA, it could get reaalllly bad. The 76ers are very deep and very talented at basically every position. They play great defense and fantastic team offense.
Game #25 Preview: Bucks at Cavaliers
Kyrie Irving's status is still unknown, but if I had to guess I would say that he will NOT play tonight against Milwaukee. That means Ramon Sessions would start and have another chance to show NBA teams around the league what he is capable of as a starting point guard. The Bucks starting point guard, Brandon Jennings, was also recently snubbed from the All Star Game and has reports surrounding him that he is already thinking about moving on from Milwaukee.
Song Of The Day: Give It To Me Baby - Rick James
Funky Friday!
Tonight's Overview:
Milwaukee Bucks (11-14) at Cleveland Cavaliers (10-14)
7:30 PM EST, Quicken Loans Arena
This is a matchup between two teams in pretty similar positions. Each is in that "should we tank or should we go for the 8th seed" dilemma. The Bucks have had terrible luck with the health of their best player, Andrew Bogut, and he is out once again with a broken ankle.
Brandon Jennings stats are very similar to those of Kyrie Irving's at 18.9 points and 5.3 assists per game. It's a shame that we likely won't get to see the two promising young PGs play against one another, but such is life. Ramon Sessions played a fantastic game in the place of Irving against the Clippers and I expect him to have another nice night.
Game #24 Preview: Clippers at Cavaliers
Lob City comes to Cleveland tonight. Chris Paul and Blake Griffin lead the new-look Clippers into Quicken Loans Arena to take on our beloved Cleveland Cavaliers. Quick thought: Has a team ever faced more athletic teams two nights in a row? Miami and now LAC tonight? I doubt it. The Cavs will have their conditioning tested on this fine evening.
Song Of The Day: Bump and Grind - R. Kelly
Tonight's Overview:
Los Angeles Clippers (15-7) at Cleveland Cavaliers (9-14)
Hey, you guys want to see hilarious? Watch Antawn Jamison try to defend Blake Grif-- OH MY GOD THERE'S SO MUCH BLOOD.
Hopefully Luke Harangody doesn't play at all tonight. Also, it should be fun to see Ryan Hollins trying to play in the same front court as DeAndre Jordan. Below is a GIF representation of how what I picture when I think of Harangody and Hollins playing basketball.
