Since the first day of training camp, the Cavaliers have been living in a gray area with the status of Delonte West, their valuable but troubled guard.

 

But to listen to the team's players and coaches, you get the impression they aren't exactly thrilled the season is already here. They may be tired of playing preseason games, but after a month of nagging injuries, battling the flu and uncertainty surrounding Delonte West, the Cavs frankly aren't as ready as they'd like to be. Especially with the Celtics in town.

From his broadcast position at Quicken Loans Arena, dubbed "The Perch," Cavaliers radio play-by-play announcer Joe Tait has a clear view of the action on the floor.

Leon Powe said he is begging to get on the floor tonight against the Boston Celtics, his old team.

Anthony Parker likes the position he's in right now with the Cavaliers — right between LeBron James and Shaquille O'Neal.

There are plenty of uncertainties surrounding the future of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics as they're currently constructed, and after discouraging playoff exits for both teams, the pressure to win now has only increased.

It is just the first game of 82 in the regular season, with more to come in the playoffs. After this evening’s game is done, there still will be 3,888 minutes left in the currently scheduled season - and that’s not counting the overtime.

The Cavaliers harbor no hard feelings, just respect for their newest Eastern Conference rival, the Celtics. Not even the brutal seven-game playoff series two years ago and the near brawl last week during an exhibition game could spark any ill feelings toward the Celtics.

Odds are against Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James joining New York Knicks(NY Daily News)
A Las Vegas bookmaker has installed the Cleveland Cavaliers as a 2-5 favorite to re-sign James, who can become an .unrestricted free agent on July 1. According to Bodog.com, the odds of James joining the Knicks next summer are 9-4.
