The Cavaliers have decided not to re-sign F Jawad Williams to another contract, one that would have required the team to re-sign him for the rest of the season. Instead, the PD is reporting that the team will likely sign D-League star Trey Johnson --
Multiple league sources confirmed the team plans to replace Williams by signing swingman Trey Johnson from the NBA Development League to a 10-day contract on Tuesday.
Johnson, a 6-foot-6 guard/forward in his second year out of Jackson State, averaged 20.1 points and 4.8 assists for the Bakersfield Jam. He was in training camp this season with the Phoenix Suns and last season with the New Orleans Hornets. He's also played in Europe.
Johnson's game resembles that of Tarence Kinsey, who went down with a sprained ankle last week and will be out at least three weeks.
The decision had to be tough for the Cavaliers, even though Williams is a bench player. Williams has fit in with this group, and chemistry on and off the court, from #1 to #12 on the roster, has been a vital ingredient to what has become a recipe of success for the Wine and Gold.
