Cavs set Team Record for wins in a season, beat New Jersey again 98-87

New, comments

It was sloppy(again), it was ugly(again) and for awhile it looked as though the Cavaliers would give one away.  Down one with 4 minutes to go, LeBron James and the Cavaliers went on a 17-5 run the rest of the way to win their 10th straight and sweep a home and home from the New Jersey Nets.

In doing so, the Cavaliers broke a team record for wins in a season with 58.  The team had won 57 twice before -- 1988-89 and 1991-92.  Where this team will stop is anyone's guess, but a look at the schedule says 65 or 66 wins is not out of the question.

Tonight, however, it was a sluggish Cavaliers team trying to overcome what is fast becoming a desperate Nets squad.  Sitting 3 games out of the final playoff spot in the East, the Nets know they have to start winning and fast.

Constantly coming from behind, the Nets finally pushed ahead at 82-81 on a Keyon Dooling 3-pointer.  That would be all the Nets had, however, as Delonte West answered with a 3 of his own, followed by an Anderson Varejao layup, two LeBron James free throws and topped off with a 3-pointer from Mo Williams. In just over 2 minutes, the Cavaliers went from down 1 to up 9.  From there the celebration was on.

Kudos to the crowd at The Q tonight for knowing and understanding the moment.  Obviously, team and individual records are not the gial, but the Cavaliers and their fans should take a moment to celebrate them and appreciate what this team is doing as well look forward to what it can do.

Congratulations to Dan Gilbert, Danny Ferry, Mike Brown, LeBron and all the guys for continuing to build upon what has been the most magical basketball season in Cleveland ever.
