Assistant General Manager Lance Blanks leaves Cavs for Phoenix

Another member of the Cavaliers has departed, although this one received no court time last season, did not miss any free throws, dish any assists or create any turnovers.

Assistant GM Lance Blanks left Cleveland's front office to become General Manager of the Phoenix Suns after five years with the Cavs, joining Danny Ferry and salary-cap specialist Mike Winger, lured away by Oklahoma City last week, in the exodus out of town.

Blanks was very involved in working with players during his time in Cleveland, and was an important piece in the recruiting of new coach Byron Scott.

The Cavaliers are expected to look for replacements for both Blanks and Winger.  Someone who might be targeted to take Blanks' spot is former Denver Executive of the Year Mark Warkentien, a draft specialist let go by the Nuggets last week.  With an abundance of draft picks in the next few seasons, such a "specialist" would fit the bill nicely, although Warkentien is also drawing interest from the New York Knicks.
