Cleveland Cavaliers guard Daniel Gibson has been named as a participant in the 2011 Foot Locker Three-Point Contest at All-Star Weekend for the second time in his career, it was announced today by the NBA.
In 41 games (15 starts) this season, Gibson has averaged career highs of 13.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 29.6 minutes per game. He ranks 10th in the NBA in three point percentage (.439) this season having made 79-180, including fifth among players with at least 150 attempts. Since entering the NBA in 2006, Gibson ranks fourth overall (.426) among active players (minimum 250 makes). Earlier this season he connected on a career-high seven three-pointers made versus Utah on December 20th, 2010.
"This is a great honor and I am blessed and fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of All-Star Weekend. I'm really looking forward to competing against this great field of shooters." Gibson said.
Gibson was named to the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest and T-Moblie Rookie Challenge at the 2008 All-Star Weekend. He posted 17 points in both the first round and the final round to finish in second place. He was named the MVP of the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge after scoring 33 points and making a record 11 three-pointers in the Sophomores 136-109 win.
The Foot Locker Three-Point Contest will take place during All-Star Saturday night on Feb. 19 in Los Angeles, CA. The participants include Boston's Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, Golden State's Dorell Wright, Miami's James Jones, and Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant.
