NBA Draft Rumors: Dion Waiters In The Mix At Cleveland's #4 Pick

Reach for the stars. Emphasis on REACH.

Last year, the Cavaliers surprised nearly everybody by selecting Tristan Thompson with the fourth pick in the draft. This year, they may shocked the NBA world again. According to Adrian Wojnarowski and Andy Katz, the Cavaliers are strongly considering Dion Waiters with their top pick.

Because Waiters, a 6-foot-5 combo guard, had a promise later in the lottery, he stopped making visits to teams highest in the lottery. Nevertheless, Cleveland still believe it has strong intelligence on Waiters, an explosive scoring guard the Cavs can pair with Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving. Cleveland still has a strong desire to move to No. 2 to get Beal, but has resisted Charlotte’s attempts to attach Tyrus Thomas to a trade.

Dion "Please Tip Your" Waiters is a shooting guard out of Syracuse that we really haven't talked about much. The reason that we haven't talked about him much is that he's an ungodly reach with the fourth pick. According to Woj's article, it seems that the Cavaliers would really only have to consider Waiters if both Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Bradley Beal are off the board. At this point, I don't anticipate that being the case.

I'm not really sure what to say about these reports right now. It's pretty insane that the Cavaliers would take Waiters ahead of MKG, but nobody saw them drafting Tristan last year either. I would not be comfortable with the Cavs taking Waiters ahead of MKG or even Harrison Barnes. At this point, I'm basically hoping that the Cavaliers swing a deal for the 2nd pick so they can just take Bradley Beal and be done with it.

Thoughts? Comments? Maybe we should all just go to sleep until it's time for the draft?
