Sam Amico from Fox Sports Ohio dropped his rumors post using his information that he gets from some anonymous (always anonymous) sources and general managers from around the league. There wasn't much to sink our teeth into today, but he kind of, sort of hinted at the idea that the Cavaliers would make offers for free agents Ersan Ilyasova and/or Kris Humphries.
Bucks forward Ersan Ilyasova is expected to be among the most sought-after free agents come July. Already, he is drawing interest from no less than 12 teams. Same goes for Nets forward Kris Humphries. Interestingly, the Nets are said to be the frontrunners for Ilyasova. Meanwhile, Humphries is likely to be heavily courted by the likes of the Nuggets, Mavericks and Warriors. Don’t be surprised if the Cavs contemplate a bid for both players, too.
I have no idea if these rumors are true or if they are even founded in something he heard. Maybe he just thought it would be a decent idea for the Cavs to extend an offer. I don't know. But it's at least worth thinking about, maybe.
I believe both Ilyasova and Humphries will get more money than the Cavaliers are willing (or should be willing) to spend on them. It'd be nice to get a big man who can score like Ilyasova, but the Cavs are not in a win-now mentality. They'll probably be content to build from the draft instead of spending big on free agents. That being said, the Cavs are among the teams with the most cap space this offseason. A lot of their offseason signings will depend on what they are able to get in the NBA Draft on June 28th.
