Once upon a time, there was a team named the Cavaliers. On a lovely day in Las Vegas, they were scheduled to play the Minnesota Timberwolves. It promised to be a wonderful game between two teams with some fun prospects. The Cavaliers had played three days in a row before getting a beautiful day off. Now, they should be well rested with a chance to show that they deserve to make the actual roster. The end.
Song of the Day - Call Me Maybe
Just because.
Tonight's Overview:
Cleveland Cavaliers (2-1) vs. Minnesota Timberwolves (1-1)
With a day off, I am excited to see what the Cavs can do to the Wolves. Much has been made about Dion Waiters' conditioning and while I believe it has been overstated, everybody should benefit from having a day of rest. In his most recent game, Waiters looked much more confident and explosive going to the rim. Perhaps that something to do with the fact that Kendall Marshall can't guard a wooden chair, but that's not important (okay, it's a little important). Maybe he'll break out in a big way and put all the critics to rest. Maybe.
Tristan Thompson hasn't been playing much this summer. That's mostly because he's on a guaranteed contract and guys like Michael Eric and Samardo Samuels are not. The coaching staff and front office want a chance to see them play and decide whether they should be on the actual roster or not. With Tristan, we know he's going to be on the team (unless he gets traded). That said, I would like to see Tristan and Derrick Williams face off tonight.
With this being the fourth game in Summer League, I've pretty much run out of new things to discuss. We are basically just waiting to see improvement from key areas. We want to see Dion be more efficient. We want to see Tyler Zeller be more aggressive and physical in the paint while still knocking down those midrange jumpers. We want to see Donald Sloan effectively run the offense. We want to see consistent defensive effort from the entire team. Am I missing anything?
Fear The Sword's Fearless Prediction:
I'm going to go ahead and say that the Cavs continue their winning streak and stretch it to 3 games. Dion Waiters will finally have an efficient game and drop 20 points. Probably. Maybe. Hopefully. We'll see.
