NBA Draft Lottery Odds: Where do the Cavs stand?

Another week has gone by, and the Cavaliers haven't done any winning. Where does that put the Cavaliers in the race for the top pick in this summer's NBA draft?

USA TODAY Sports

The race for top odds to win the lottery is both bunched up, and also clear cut at the same time. The top two spots, as far as the odds go, are in all likelihood wrapped up for the Charlotte Bobcats and Orlando Magic. While Gerald Henderson and the Bobcats have shown some signs of life recently, it is hard to see them having less than the second best chance to win the lottery. Orlando is not being bashful about tanking.

After that, though, there are nine (!) teams with between 22 and 26 wins on the season. Some of these teams are just catastrophically hurt (Cleveland, Minnesota), some are in a state of limbo (Sacramento, Pheonix), and some are intriguing with a couple more pieces (Detroit, Washington). Either way, it will be fascinating to see how it shakes out over the next few weeks. For now, here is where we are:

1. Charlotte Bobcats - 16 wins. Winning Percentage: .235. Odds of winning Lottery: 25%

2. Orlando Magic - 18 wins. Winning Percentage: .265. Odds of winning Lottery: 19.9%

3. Cleveland Cavaliers - 22 wins. Winning Percentage: .324. Odds of winning Lottery: 13.8%

4. Phoenix Suns - 23 wins. Winning Percentage: .333. Odds of winning Lottery: 9.6%

5. Detroit Pistons - 23 wins. Winning Percentage: .333. Odds of winning Lottery: 9.6%

6. New Orleans Hornets - 23 wins. Winning Percentage: .333. Odds of winning Lottery: 9.6%

7. Sacramento Kings - 24 wins. Winning Percentage: .353. Odds of winning Lottery: 3.6%

8. Minnesota Timberwolves - 23 wins. Winning Percentage: .354. Odds of winning Lottery: 3.5%

9. Washington Wizards - 24 wins. Winning Percentage: .358. Odds of winning Lottery: 1.7%

10. Oklahoma City Thunder (acquired from Toronto: If pick is in top-3, Toronto keeps it, stats are Toronto's) - 26 wins. Winning Percentage: .382. Odds of winning Lottery: 1.1%

11. Philadelphia 76ers - 26 wins. Winning Percentage: .388. Odds of winning Lottery: .8%

12. Portland Trailblazers - 31 wins. Winning Percentage: .463. Odds of winning Lottery: .7%

13. Dallas Mavericks - 32 wins. Winning Percentage: .471. Odds of winning Lottery: .6%

14. Utah Jazz - 34 wins. Winning Percentage: .500. Odds of winning Lottery: .5%

Give the lottery machine over at ESPN a spin yourself. The Cavs pretty consistently get a fun player, but even two more wins would leave Cavs with minimal odds of a top 3 pick. The Cavaliers pick that they would get from the Lakers through the Miami Heat would currently be 16th. Their own pick could be no lower than 6th.
