The Boston Celtics have been involved in a lot of interesting rumors lately involving the Los Angeles Clippers. It sounds as though they could be looking to move forward from the Big 3 era and jump start a rebuilding process. If that's the truth then it would make sense for them to be shopping The Truth -- Paul Pierce.
A report surfaced today that the Cleveland Cavaliers may be interesting in acquiring the 35-year old, future Hall of Famer, according to Fox Sports Ohio. Pierce has 1 year left on his contract and the Celtics could be trying to move him, shed salary, and get younger. The Cavs would give up the 31st and 33rd picks in the draft and get the rights to Pierce. Pierce can certainly still play a bit, he averaged 18.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists last year in Boston -- but his skills are obviously in decline.
• According to one report, the Cavs and Boston Celtics are discussing a trade involving the Cavs’ two second-round picks (Nos. 31 and 33) for Celtics forward Paul Pierce. FOX Sports Ohio has been unable to confirm that report.
Seems legit, huh?
I don't know what to think of this. Pierce could definitely contribute and since he's an expiring contract, I don't mind paying his $15.3 million contract. You probably won't get much better value for those 2 second round picks than Pierce. I guess the big question is this: could I to root for Paul Pierce without wanting to punch myself in the face? He's my least favorite player in the NBA for a long time; seeing him in Wine and Gold would be super weird. Heck, seeing him in anything other than Celtics green would be weird.
