Cavs waive A.J. Price, sign Will Cherry

The Cavaliers have made a move at backup point guard.

Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

In a press release sent out today, the Cleveland Cavaliers announced that the team had waived point guard A.J. Price, cutting the roster to 14 players. Price, who did not play in either the Cavs' first two regular season games, averaged 7.2 points and 1.5 assists in 13.3 minutes per game in the preseason.

Subsequently, Both Mark Spears of Yahoo! Sports and Chris Haynes of the Northeast Ohio Media Group reported that the Cavs have signed free agent point guard Will Cherry to a non-guaranteed two-year contract.

Cherry was with the Cavs during Las Vegas Summer League Play and played for Cleveland's D-League affiliate, the Canton Charge, last season. Cherry started the regular season with the Toronto Raptors before being released on October 25. Cherry's signing has not yet been announced by the Cavs.
