The Cleveland Cavaliers announced today that center Alex Kirk has been assigned to the Canton Charge, the Cavaliers' D-League affiliate. The move is effectively immediately and the move leaves the Cavs' roster at 14 for the time being. The Charge opens its season on Saturday against the Delaware 87ers.

Kirk, who appeared in two games this season, is a rookie from New Mexico. After going underrated in the 2014 NBA Draft, Kirk played on Cleveland's Las Vegas Summer League Team. This moves makes sense for Kirk, as he was going to see no time in Cleveland. At Canton, he will likely start and can still practice with Cleveland when the Cavs are home and hold practice. Interestingly enough, Kirk's assignment to the D-League comes on his 23rd birthday.
Happy birthday to #Cavs big man @kingkirk53
