The Cleveland Cavaliers are rolling! They've racked up eight straight wins leading into tonight's marquee matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Tonight's game will feature two fierce competitors that dazzle and dominate on a nightly basis in Kyrie Irving and Russell Westbrook. I think there will also be a couple of Kevin somethings and what's-his-name James present as well.
Who? Cleveland Cavaliers (12-7) at Oklahoma City Thunder (8-13)
When? 8 pm EST
Where? Chesapeake Energy Arena, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Where on my eyeballs? TNT, TSN2, shady internet site.
"They couldn't pick a better time to start in life. It ain't too early and it ain't too late!" The opening lines to "Oklahoma," a song from the musical Oklahoma, perfectly describe Oklahoma's own Oklahoma City Thunder. (I just used the word 'Oklahoma' four times in one sentence, which is a new internet record.) Scotty Brooks' bunch is 4-1 since Russell Westbrook returned and 3-1 with both Durant and Westbrook in the starting lineup. Despite their 3-12 beginning, the Thunder are just 2.5 games out of the 8th and final playoff spot in the West.
Cleveland has won 8 straight, and generally speaking, everything is awesome. LeBron's playing efficiently and creating opportunities for others, Love is comfortable, Kyrie's Kyrie, Tristan Thompson is making strides, Dion's coming around... life's good for David Blatt, whose team overcame their own slow start (5-7) and have since righted the ship.
After this, the Cavs head immediately to New Orleans before opening a five-game homestand that runs until Christmas day, when they visit a team LeBron used to play for, I think.
Anytime LeBron and Durant meet, it's appointment television. Since the Thunder had last night off, both KD and Russ should be in the lineup. Buckle up, kids. It's going to be a fun one.
