Cleveland Cavaliers News: Cavs to sign guard A.J. Price

The Cavs will eventually sign all of the point guards

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The Cavs never ending quest for reserve ball handling continues. A.J. Price will be a Cleveland Cavalier, according to Terry Pluto of Cleveland.com:

5. The Cavs will bring veteran point guard A.J. Price to training camp. He played in only 28 games for Minnesota last season, and saw little action. The 6-foot-2 Price has played in 235 NBA games, averaging 5.9 points and shooting .381 from the field for his career.

Price isn't a name that excites, and given that he is most likely on a non-guaranteed deal he faces long odds to make the team, or get minutes after that. Like the undrafted Chris Crawford, Price has a bigger frame than average for a point guard. He is a solid handler and defender, but a really poor shooter, sporting 38% shooting from the field and 32% from deep for his career.

The Cavs will probably play a lot of "no point guard" lineups with Dion Waiters or LeBron James initiating  offense, leaving five or so minutes a night available for somebody. Maybe that's Price.
