According to ESPN's college basketball reporter, former Cleveland Cavaliers point guard and current Charlotte Hornets assistant coach Mark Price has agreed to become the new head coach of the UNC Charlotte 49ers.
Price, 51, was a four-time All-Star with the Cavaliers and spent 12 years in the NBA. He has been an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets, Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors and Orlando Magic. His time with the Hornets has given him his biggest responsibility to date, as he was tasked with helping Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist rebuild his jump shot.
Price also interviewed for the Cavs head coaching job this summer after Cleveland fired Mike Brown. Price ended up getting two interviews for the job, which ultimately went to David Blatt.
Price is replacing Alan Major at Charlotte, who was fired last week after five seasons and a 67-70 record at the helm of the 49ers. A press conference is scheduled for Thursday to introduce Price as the program's tenth head coach.
