Cavaliers announce Kevin Love to miss entirety of second round of NBA Playoffs

The Cavs don't know when the second round of the playoffs will get started, and they don't have an opponent yet. They do know, however, that their star power forward Kevin Love will be unavailable.

The Cavaliers announced the decision on Monday night:

Evaluation and imaging have defined the extent of the injury: an acute anterior inferior glenohumeral dislocation with the corresponding ligament/labrum tearing and humeral head bone bruising. Currently, Love is undergoing training room treatments while additional opinions are being obtained and treatment options being explored. Love will be unavailable for the Cavaliers’ upcoming Conference Semifinal playoff series and an update regarding his status beyond that will be determined over the next several days.

This is devastating news, and it will be tough for the Cavs to survive without Love's all-around offensive game. The team now has a serious lack of depth inside, and the team loses a lot of shooting as well. If there's a bright side to this it's that Love hasn't been ruled out for the entirety of the playoffs. That having been said, it may come to that in the next couple days. And getting through the next round is far from guaranteed.

We will have more on what Love's absence will mean moving forward. Tristan Thompson, Timofey Mozgov, and perhaps Shawn Marion will spend time at the power forward position. LeBron James will as well. We will see.
