First Half
Summer League is kind of like being a teenager sometimes. There is misplaced aggression all over the place. For the first half, Rakeem Christmas and Sir'Dominic Pointer found that out. Christmas was 1 of 7 shooting, frequently following up a powerful move with a missed dunk or layup. Pointer was stripped on several dribble drives, and both players committed a fair amount of fouls challenging shots.
The shooting was putrid for both sides, and there were 29 fouls. SUMMER LEAGUE!
Second Half
Nothing got better. Tyler Haws got some minutes, and made shots. He really struggles to defend though. The travels of the Cavs entire coaching coach staff along the opposite sideline, and Draymond Green outrunning autograph seeking children were the highlights here. Along with a man in a pony tail, who was wearing a Michael Jordan baseball jersey.
Impressions
The Cavs best player was probably.... that's actually a tough question because there was nobody stood out. Maybe Jerrelle Benimon? That said, and fortunately for Joe Harris, Christmas, and Pointer, one game doesn't tell us much. The early returns are mediocre though. Early money is that only Christmas makes it to the roster, but Pointer will be one of the Cavs 4 "designated players" on the Charge roster, protecting them from signing with another club. Kiefer Sykes may fit this bill as well.
The Cavs will take on the Nets Saturday at 7PM central time. I will try to get you some audio and other goodies before then.
