J.R. Smith's media session at Cavs media day was short - and he finished it by telling out Iman Shumpert that loved him - but he did shed some light on his decision to opt out of his contract this summer.
Via Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal:
#Cavs JR Smith says he isn't disappointed in how contract played out: "I’m a gambler. I’ll take a gamble on myself any day."

Smith, of course, didn't pick up his option in June and became a free agent. After a long free agent process, Smith re-signed with the Cavs on a two-year deal in late August.
