According to a press release from the Cleveland Cavaliers, rookie guard Kay Felder has been placed in concussion protocol after ‘sustaining contact to the head’ at Friday’s practice. Per the release, his status will updated Tuesday morning prior to the Cavaliers’ season opener against the New York Knicks.

To be available to play, Felder will have to pass a number of tests - including riding a stationery bike, jogging, agility drills and some non-contact basketball drills - in order to the cleared to play vs. the Knicks.
Not having Felder available would likely push Iman Shumpert directly into the backup point guard role. It is also possible that the Cavs could make a deal before Tuesday, as it has been reported that they are working on a deal that wouldn’t force Felder directly into service as Irving’s backup. If he is available - and the team doesn’t make a deal before then - Felder will likely see some time against the Knicks.
