Cleveland Cavaliers forward/center Channing Frye will be out indefinitely to be with his family on news of the passing of his mother. This is undoubtedly sad news for Channing, who is one of the most popular players within the Cavs locker room. It’s unclear how long Frye will be away from the team, but that’s the least important thing in a situation like this.
Dave McMenamin of ESPN had some info on his mother, who sounds like she was a really impressive woman:
Karen Mulzac-Frye, a Brooklyn, New York native, was an Emmy-winning television reporter and later an executive producer and host on "KFrye & Girlfriends Talk Sports" for Fox Sports Arizona.
"My love of sports," she explained as her motivation for the show in a 2011 interview with "PHOENIX" magazine. "And [a desire] to talk about the game in a different way. I don’t always care about the stats. I love the player, I love the way he or she has transformed themselves."
