Cavs assistant Phil Handy on Kay Felder: ‘Man, I love that guy!’

Mark down Phil Handy down as a fan of Kay Felder.

At least amongst Cleveland Cavaliers, guard Kay Felder has been the star of summer league. He’s flying around the court, block shots and making a name for himself.

Fans, though, aren’t the only ones to notice. Cavs.com beat writer Joe Gabriel posted a Q&A with Cavs assistant Phil Handy and seemed pretty excited about Felder, going as far to call him a cross of Nate Robinson and Isaiah Thomas.

Here’s Handy’s full quote:

Man, I love him! I love that kid. He’s got a chip on his shoulder. He competes. He’s tough. And he’s got a nice little moxie to him.

I really believe he’s in a transition period, but he’s been playing well. I’ve been really happy with the way he’s been playing.

He hasn’t forced shots, he’s doing a pretty good job of running the team and he’s been picking up full-court on almost every possession. I love what he brings and he’s only going to get better.

If he continues to understand the NBA game – he’s quick enough, he’s athletic enough, he’s explosive enough. He’s like a combo of Nate Robinson and Isaiah Thomas. He’s got that type of ability.

In the rest of the Q&A, Handy talks about Jordan McRae’s development, coming to Las Vegas fresh of winning the title and more. As for Felder, he and the rest of the Cavs’ summer league roster plays tonight on ESPN 2 against the Boston Celtics. Tipoff is at 8 p.m.
