The Ringer, which is Bill Simmons’ new site, is currently in the midst of their Cleveland week. With the Cavaliers having just won the title and the Republican National Convention currently going on, #TheLand is as relevant as ever.
As part of Cleveland week, writer Shea Sherrano wrote a piece about how J.R. Smith is the perfect Cleveland athlete. The Ringer also produced a mock 80s style video game called ‘The Summer of JR’ to go along with the piece that featured Smith punching away t-shirts people throw at him. In the game, the boss is none other than President Barack Obama - who asked Tyronn Lue to have Smith put on a shirt after the Finals - sending Bulls mascot Benny the Bull shooting a t-shirt cannon at Smith. And when Smith wins, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln names J.R. Smith president. Smith, of course, recently sported a t-shirt calling for him to become president after a fan held up a sign saying the same thing at the Cavs’ title parade.
Yes, that’s a lot to process. But it’s amazing. Check it out below.
