Team USA rolled again yesterday in beating China 106-57 in an exhibition showdown and the Americans don’t look like they are anything less than a favorite to win gold at the 2016 Olympic Games.
A big part of Team USA’s play was again Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving. Against China, Irving came off the bench and scored 10 points to go along with four assists in about 15 minutes of play. Irving also had the play of the night when he crossed over China center Zou Yuchen just before the half and finished with a crafty underhanded layup. It’s only exhibition play, but Irving has been playing well so far and it’d be a bit surprising to see him starting at point guard in Rio. Kyle Lowry started vs. China because coach Mike Krzyzewski is switching the starting lineup each game during the team’s current pre-Olympic tour.
