Cavaliers announce waiving of Dahntay Jones

Dahntay Jones had a star turn in the NBA Finals, but he was waived Sunday afternoon

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

Dahntay Jones was signed late in the regular season as insurance in case of injury or disaster or both. It was hard to see him making a big impact for the Cavs, but for a brief moment during Game 6, he did just that. On Sunday afternoon, the Cavaliers announced that they are waiving the veteran wing. From the Cavs:

The 2016 NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers have waived guard/forward Dahntay Jones, Cavaliers General Manager David Griffin announced today from Cleveland Clinic Courts.

Jones was signed by the Cavaliers on April 13, 2016, He appeared in one regular season game and 15 postseason games this past season.

Jones' contract was set to be guaranteed if the Cavs hadn't released him by midnight, so this was somewhat expected. It's possible the Cavs would invite Jones to training camp. It's a bummer for Jones, but the playoff dividend each player receives for making or winning the NBA Finals probably makes things a bit nicer.
