Canton Charge head coach Jordi Fernandez has received a call-up to the NBA.
The Charge announced Tuesday that Fernandez, who has been the team’s head coach the last two seasons, has been hired by the Denver Nuggets. In Denver, Fernandez will be an assistant on Mike Malone’s staff.
Fernandez lead a Charge team that made the playoffs last season and exits as the winningest coach in franchise history. Prior to his time with the Charge, he worked for the Cavs as a player development coach.
The team has not yet named a replacement, but Joe Vardon of cleveland.com reports that Nate Reinking, an assistant on Fernandez’s staff last season, will take over as head coach. Reinking played college basketball locally at Kent State.
