Both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love will sit Wednesday as the Cleveland Cavaliers take on the Chicago Bulls. Tyronn Lue updated Irving and Love’s statuses’ during his pregame media availability.
Lue said that Irving’s injury is not serious and that Love is sitting because he has gotten weaker over the past few days.
Irving will miss his third straight game due to a hamstring injury he suffered last week against the Boston Celtics. Love will sit after losing 10 pounds after eating some bad sea bass after the Cavaliers’ game in Charlotte on New Year’s Eve. He played Monday in the Cavs’ win over the New Orleans Pelicans, but exited the game during the fourth quarter.
LeBron James, who was listed in the team’s pregame report as questionable, is a game-time decision due to a flu blug. His status will be updated after he goes through warmups.
If James were to sit, the Cavs would have just eight healthy players to work with. Richard Jefferson would likely get the start in James’ place.
Additionally, Lue said that Mike Dunleavy will return after missing the last two games with an ankle injury.
This isn’t an ideal situation for the Cavs, especially as the team starts a six game road trip on Friday. It remains to be seen if Love or Irving will be avaialable when the Cavs start their road trip against the Brooklyn Nets.
