With Edy Tavares having been waived earlier today, the Cleveland Cavaliers didn’t wait long to fill his roster spot.

The Cavs announced in a press release’ on Wednesday afternoon that they have signed guard Isaac Hamilton. The deal is reportedly, and predictably, non-guaranteed.

Hamilton, an undrafted guard out of UCLA, is 23 years old, stands 6’4” and played in the Orlando Pro Summer League for the Indiana Pacers. At summer league, he averaged 5.3 points in 14.2 minutes per game. In college, he averaged 13.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

There is no chance Hamilton will make the final roster, which has to be settled within the next few days. What the Cavs are doing here is signing him to potentially get his G-League rights. From there, they can keep an eye on him with the Canton Charge and, assuming another team doesn’t sign him in the mean time, hope he develops.
