And with that, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ preseason is over.
On Friday, the Cavaliers beat the Orlando Magic 113-106 in Orlando to finish the preseason with a 1-4 record. The Cavs won without LeBron James, who missed the game due an ankle injury, and Kevin Love, who was a late scratch after feeling “tight” during warm-ups. Iman Shumpert started in place of James. Channing Frye started in Love’s place.
Jose Calderon lead the Cavs will 18 points off the bench to go along with five assists. Derrick Rose added nine points and Dwyane Wade added 15, 11 of which came in the first quarter. Aaron Gordon lead the Magic with 21 points.
The Cavs’ starters didn’t play the second half and the team closed out the game with a lineup of Calderon, John Holland, Cedi Osman, Kendrick Perkins and Ante Zizic. Calderon is a fringe rotation player at best. Osman and Zizic are likely both out of the rotation on most nights. Holland is signed to a two-day deal and will spend most of the season in the G-League. Perkins will be cut shorty.
Both Richard Jefferon and Kay Felder, who were traded to the Hawks before the game, were on the bench. The deal is expected to be officially completed on Saturday.
The Cavs begin the regular at season at home on Tuesday when Kyrie Irving and the Boston Celtics come to Quicken Loans Arena. Tipoff is at 8 p.m. and the game will air in ESPN.
