They don’t ask how, they ask how many. The Cleveland Cavaliers certainly didn’t deserve to win this game, but they found a way to defeat the New York Knicks 104-101.
This game started out looking like entertaining basketball. Then both teams fell apart offensively for a spell, until the Knicks woke up and started picking off the Cavs on seemingly every possession to close out the half.
The Cavaliers came out with a small run to start the third quarter, but then they fell back into their old habits and the Knicks ran away with the game. With the starters showing little interest in this game, Tyronn Lue elected to bench them towards the end of the third quarter.
In light of this game being a flaming dumpster riding on top of a train that has left the rails and is plummeting directly into a sewage plant, I’m going to summarize this game with a few gifs:
How the Knicks felt in the first half:
How the Cavs transition defense looked:
Cavs ball security:
When the Cavs make a game of it in the fourth and force you to consider abandoning your recap format:
Kyle Korver in the fourth quarter:
When the Cavs inexplicably take the lead:
When you win a profoundly stupid game and fall backwards into a .500 record:
There aren’t a whole lot of legitimate takeaways for this game. The bench provided some life to finish off the third quarter and LeBron came out engaged in the fourth. We know the Cavs can play better when they try, but these poor habits they have formed really need to change.
It was an off night for Kevin Love who had a tough match-up against Kristaps Porzingis. Jae Crowder had a few shots go down, but looked lost and failed to make an impact on defense. Neither finished the game as LeBron and the bench were allowed to finish their run. This team still has a long way to go, but it’s fun to get a silly win like this for a team that has given it’s fans few reasons to smile or laugh recently.
