Larry Sanders has been assigned to the Canton Charge, the Cavaliers announced Tuesday morning. The team had recalled Sanders over the weekend after he played his first back-to-back since embarking on his return to professional basketball.
Sanders joins Cavs rookie point guard Kay Felder, who the team assigned to the Charge on Monday, in Canton for the start of the D-League playoffs. The Charge, the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference, start the playoffs Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Raptors 905, the Toronto Raptors’ D-League affiliate and the No. 1 seed. Both Sanders and Felder are expected to play significant minutes.
It is not known yet at this time if Sanders and/or Felder will remain with the Charge after Wednesday game. Game 2 and Game 3 of the best-of-three series - both of which would take place Mississauga, Ontario, Canada - are scheduled for April 8 and April 11. The Cavs do not have games on either date. And since neither player will play much in Cleveland, it might be best to have them play with the Charge at least through the end of this series.
In four games with the Charge, Sanders is averaging 6 points 8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game. He also only made two appearances with the Cavs, both in garbage time.
The Charge and Raptors 905 tipoff at 7 p.m. The game airs live on ESPNU.
