The update is that there isn’t one.

At his pregame availability before Friday’s Cavaliers-Hawks game, Cavs coach Tyronn Lue was asked to update Tristan Thompson’s status. His update is that there’s no update.

“I’m not sure, just that he’s out for tonight,” Lue said. “And he’ll be evaluated in the next couple of days. He also said he wasn’t sure if Thompson would be able to play if tonight was a playoff game.

Lue also wasn’t sure if Thompson would be in attendance for Friday’s game. He also noted that he would like Tristan to get a game or two in before the playoffs start.

Thompson sprained his thumb in the Cavs’ Tuesday win against the Magic. After an MRI, he was ruled out for Wednesday’s game against the Celtics and tonight’s game against the Hawks. When he missed Wednesday’s game, it snapped his consecutive games streak at 447.

For the Cavs, Thompson’s injury ultimately may have been a blessing in disguise. He’s look a bit tired in recent weeks and is getting his first in-season break in years. Even though he may not be 100 percent the the rest of the year, he may have more energy when he returns. That’s a win for Cleveland.

Expect to hear more on Thompson’s condition before the Cavs play the Hawks again on Sunday.
