The David Griffin saga continues, as the GM of the Cleveland Cavaliers continues to go without a contract after the end of this season.
With Griffin’s status as a free agent, it makes sense that many teams would be interested in his services. Griffin has done an incredible job managing assets for the Cavs and is one of the biggest reasons the franchise was able to end their title drought.
So with his uncertain status, it has lead many to feel a sense of uneasiness regarding the lack of information. On Tuesday morning, Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical provided an update on the situation:
Sources: Magic asked Cavs for permission to speak to David Griffin, but so far -- no response. (Plus ATL GM search). https://t.co/AlzbI35KEP

This is a case of no news is good news. If the team was granting him permission to speak to the Magic, it would likely signal that they are reaching a point where a contract with the Cavs would be unlikely.
While Griffin has already put the Cavs in a great position, as LeBron James continues to age, the teams identity will need to shift to some extent. There’s no reason to not trust in him to navigate those waters and a change in the front office would be a cause for concern. Hopefully this situation gets resolved soon, otherwise the team may lose one of it’s best assets.
