With David Griffin gone, the Cleveland Cavaliers need to act quickly prior to Thursday’s NBA Draft. While the Cavs don’t have a draft pick, this is still an incredibly important summer for them.
The Indiana Pacers are looking to move Paul George quickly, and the discussions with the Chicago Bulls about Jimmy Butler are now reportedly on hold. Meaning if the Cavs want to make a big move, time is of the essence.
So with that in mind, the Cavs will need to act quickly to get their front office in order. According to Brian Windhorst, Dan Gilbert will meet with Chauncey Billups on Tuesday to discuss a front-office position.

Billups has a close relationship with head coach Tyronn Lue, which could help smooth over what will undoubtedly be an awkward transition for whoever fills Griffin’s shoes.

The prospect of taking over the Cavs front office has to be an awkward one. On the one hand, you get to run a proven championship team. On the other, it can’t feel good to see the team not reward your predecessor who did a phenomenal job in bringing a title to Cleveland. This is all very weird.
