Kyrie Irving on WNBA stars: “I cannot wait for my daughter to grow up and idolize” them

On Friday, Cavs guard Kyrie Irving attended a WNBA game between the Seattle Storm Phoenix Mercury. The game featured some of the league’s best — Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Brittney Griner and Breanna Stewart for starters — and Irving documented the game in a series of Snapchat posts.

Irving said he was excited to see his “good friends” Taurasi and Bird go at it and talked about the importance of the WNBA and how his young daughters can look up to idolize WNBA stars.

Here are Irving’s full comments as transcribed by For The Win:

“Turned out to be a great success. Got to see all the girls and got to catch up with them, but most of all it’s about the support for just the great game of basketball. It comes all shapes and forms, and those girls are elite. I even saw B.G. (Brittney Griner) catch a dunk tonight, which I’m pretty happy about. So operation attend Sue Bird vs. Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner, Breanna Stewart and Jewell Lloyd, and all those great girls, complete.

“Lastly, I cannot wait for my daughter to grow up and idolize some of the girls that are playing today and some of the past ones that have already played. She’s gonna love it.”

He also chatted with some of the players after the game:

It’s really cool to see Irving out at WNBA games and supporting the league. Others NBA stars such as Karl-Anthony Towns an Dwight Howard have attended games recently as well.

Now, Cleveland needs the Rockers back so Irving can attend games in Cleveland.
