Here’s the full blurb:
Chauncey Billups still in negotiations with Dan Gilbert & Cavs, source told ESPN. Counter-offered yesterday; now it's in Dan Gilbert's court.
This could mean a number of things. Maybe Billups, who reportedly is hesitant to uproot his family from Denver, is asking for leeway on that front. Maybe he is looking for a certain level of control. Or maybe it’s about money. We don’t really know.
But, as vague as this is, it’s the first advancement in the Cavs’ GM search in a few days. Until this update, there was nothing on the Billups front. And with the NBA offseason really already underway, Cleveland has to get things going. Getting clarity on Billups, and at least getting closer to finding David Griffin’s replacement, is a good first step. And now the ball is Gilbert’s court to decide if this is the direction the team is going to go in. Stay tuned.
