According to a story from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Cavaliers are finalizing a deal to promote Koby Altman to general manager. A form announcement is expected soon, per Woj.
Altman, who has been unofficially running Cleveland’s front office for a few weeks, faces a series of tough choices. Will he trade Kyrie Irving, who reportedly requested a trade, or keep him in hopes of making him want to stay? If he does try to trade Irving, what kind of package will he target? And, aside from Irving, how will he manage the Cavs’ limited assetts? And can he build a team that will entice LeBron to stay past this season.
According to Woj, Altman is expected to add an experienced assistant GM to join his staff. Mike Gansey, who is currently the GM of the Canton Charge, will also be promoted to assistant GM, per Woj. With Canton, the Cavs’ G-League affiliate, Gansey has been known to construct competitive roster even with the high roster turnover rate in the G-League.
If you don’t know what Atlman looks like, here he is with Cedi Osman.
