LeBron James’ free agency that is fast approaching at the end of the 2017-18 season has been looming for some time. At media day, James was asked about prior statements that he wanted to finish his career in Cleveland, and whether those feelings have changed.

"It hasn't changed. And that's why I sit up here today, still in this uniform, still ready to lead this franchise to a championship, put us in a position where we can be successful."

Despite those comments, James was careful not to commit long-term to the Cavaliers.

"Anytime I'm able to be free agent or my contract ends, I'll approach that when the summer comes.”

This isn’t surprising, nor should it signal to anybody that LeBron has confirmed he’s sticking around. Even if he decides to skip town at the end of the season, he can easily say “I hoped to finish my career here, but I’ve decided to move elsewhere.” It’s not a hard cop-out to make.

With that said, James seemed fairly energetic and excited for the upcoming season, and the Cavaliers have armed him with a very talented and deep roster, one that could get even deeper after a potential Dwyane Wade acquisition.

Some are reporting that James’ decision to leave has already been made, while many say that even he doesn’t know what he’s going to do. The Cavs are going to give him their best shot at convincing him to stay. Let’s see how it plays out.
