This season is an incredibly important one for Isaiah Thomas. With his trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers, he has his first opportunity in his career to truly contend for an NBA Championship. On top of that, he has to weigh his prove he’s 100 percent healthy after hip injury while also demonstrating his future value in a contract year. It’s a tough balance to strike and a situation that undoubtedly comes with a lot of pressure.

Whatever the future holds for Thomas, the decision making will no longer involve Excel Sports Management. Thomas has parted ways with his agent and is seeking a new agent to handle his pending free agency according to ESPN’s Chris Haynes:

It’ll be interesting to see who Thomas chooses for his representation. The most interesting possibility would obviously be with Rich Paul at Klutch Sports. As it would give the Cavs four players represented by the agency joining LeBron James, Tristan Thompson and J.R. Smith. It would also help the team better handle the free agency of both James and Thomas at the same time.

Regardless of who Thomas signs with, the market for him this summer will be a fascinating story line. Without a timeline for his hip injury, there’s a tremendous amount of uncertainty surrounding his future and possibly getting a Brinks truck worth of money.
